My husband has hazel eyes and I have green eyes. My son has brown eyes. I always thought brown was the dominent gene, and that my husband or I would have to have brown eyes. My son's eyes are a very light brown. Explain?? (Serious answers only please)Eye Color?
There are no such colours as Hazel or Green in genetics. You can only have different shades of Blue and Brown. So your husbands eyes are the brown, and more dominant gene. Yours are blue, and the reccesive gene. So your husbands genes where dominant over yours, so your son has a light shade of brown eyes. Hope that helps.Eye Color?
There are two posibilities:
First, there are many different eye colors lumped into the hazel category; one of which is a very light brown with no green.
Second, that one of you could be carrying a gene for brown eyes as well,... though it's a dominant trait, it can be overridden or blended to make a different eye color.
One of you has a cryptic brown gene, such that its dominance is masked by the recessive genes surrounding it. In the shuffling of genes that occurs for the next generation, the brown gene has regained its dominance, or has become 'unmasked'.
I find this interesting as well Im a momma of 4 girls..my husband and I both have blue eyes and three of our girls have blue the other has hazel to green eyes..I think this is a gene that can be passed down through the line..like from a grandparent or so on..Im the only blue eyed in my family my parents and siblings have brown eyes. I hope you find an answer because i have always wondered about this myself. Sorry I know this didnt answer your question but it just goes to show other people are curious as well.
Brown is the dominant eye color. Both you and your husband present with the recessive eye color. What that means is that somewhere in your family histories the recessive gene was introduced and you presented it (for which ever color). Your son is just presenting the normal or dominant eye color.
Some where down the line one of your grand kids or great grand kids will have green or hazel or blue eyes also. The others will most likely be brown.
I have hazel eyes and my husband has almost grey eyes and my son has chocolate brown eyes he got this from my husbands mother I think it comes down through generation.
